Many Christians today are suffering difficulties or direct persecution for their faith. Many others would be wise to anticipate persecution in various forms in the coming days. The teaching of 1 Peter is directed to believers in Christ facing persecution while scattered in specific regions in the ancient world. As a part of God’s Word, 1 Peter has a message for all believers (in all regions) - about living in difficult times before the return and the “revelation” of Jesus Christ.
The epistle (letter) guides us and directs us to live faithful lives in tough times. These inspired words can help us, through the illumination of the Holy Spirit, to gain a God-given perspective, to affirm right priorities, to face challenging circumstances, and especially how to face persecution and suffering. And all this as we follow Christ - whose own sufferings preceded His glory.
