A Bewildered Man Who Became A Believing Man — Changed Lives Series #5
References: John 4:46-54
Aial, the nobleman of this story, possessed many things and had no need that could be detected on the surface. We may reasonably assume that he was in service at the court of Herod Antipas, the tetrarch of Galilee. Indeed, some have suggested that he may have been Chuza, Herod’s prime minister (Luke 8:3), or even Manaean, Herod’s foster brother (Acts 13:1).
His eminence and influence, however, had not immunized him to the tragedy of sickness and threatening death. His child was seriously ill and all human help had proven to be in vain. In the face of this tragedy, his resources fell short, and he became a bewildered man.
So, in desperation, he came seeking the only One who could heal his son, even the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a bewildered man who became a believing man. What is interesting about this man is that he did not come to Jesus because of his faith. His faith was defective. He came because he wanted to exhaust all of the possibilities for a good outcome - and Jesus was last on his list of possibilities.
